Turning Quarantine into a Dream

How to make a mindful stay-at-home environment for mealtimes that will serve you and your loved ones

The world has been struggling the past couple of weeks to adjust to life from home. Many parents and people are feeling the pressure to juggle routine responsibilities in a new way. One parent said of being on "triple duty" (school, work, and home),  "Having things like a schedule is very important" (1).

Continuing to make healthful choices during times of stress is important, and maintaining connection during social isolation is also crucial. The following tips can help you find calm, peace, and security in an uncertain time when you might be experiencing difficult changes in your life (2).

How do you maintain a sense of normalcy when your routine has been disrupted? The key is to prioritize your routine and manage your self-care so that you invest in keeping a sense of stability. In other words, keep doing the good things you are doing, and look for areas of improvement where you can. There might be a crisis around you, but there does not need to be a crisis within you. Though quarantine may not be an ideal situation, it can be a catalyst for new opportunities and improvement in your life.

It can be tempting to eat in your bed when you are working from home, but try to maintain a schedule of eating meals around the same time and actually sitting at the table. Enjoy the sensation of mealtime instead of multitasking a mealtime with something else. Trust me, you will be grateful for the break and enjoy actually being with your family, roommates, etc., instead of merely being around them in the same space.
